How to Setup your LIPI to Run from Notifications

NOTE: This documentation is for the administrator on the customer’s side who has administrator’s rights both in the CMX and the LIPI.

'

-If you are installing LIPI for the first time, please refer to this document first https://mazemap.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCSH/pages/716668971

If you are updating your current LIPI installation, please refer to https://mazemap.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCSH/pages/714407941

In order to enable notifications for your wayfinding, you need to do this directly on the CMX.

  1. In the CMX Administrator’s dashboard, go to “Manage”, then click “Notifications”.

2. Create a New Notification, a pop-up box will appear. Fill in the values as shown below:

3. CMX provides a number of options for the type of notifications. But we will focus on the types Location Update and Movement

If you choose “Location Update”:

CMX sends location updates for connected devices periodically.

If you prefer to use “Movement” instead:

CMX sends location updates to the LIPI when devices move X distance.

If you have chosen the type “Location Update”, these are the choices that you should click from the drop down menus

In the “Hierarchy” field, choose the name of the building you want prioritized, otherwise choose “All Locations”

If you have chosen the type “Movement”, then these are the choices that you should click from the drop-down menus,

Note however that choosing a very low distance may result in too many location updates sent to the LIPI.

4. It is optional to fill in the MAC address and HTTP Headers as it is inconsequential for our purpose, but you have to fill the Receiver fields, type in the Mazepos address (DNS) of your LIPI. Then type in 443 in the Port field and the word “location” on the field after the slash (/) symbol.

4. Turn on the MAC Hashing. Choose “JSON” from the drop-down menu of the field Message Format, fill in the Salt field with your chosen key and then press “Create” to create and save the new notification.

If you have LIPI version 4.x

5. Go to LIPI Configuration in the Indoor Positioning menu of your Map Editor Tool and this will be shown:

Expand the drop-down menu and go to “Advanced Configuration”

Please make sure to click the “Enable notifications” and “Use only notifications” toggle switches to enable them and ensure stable performance.

The disadvantage of this however is that locations might take a while to be sent by the CMX as transmission of notification is dependent on the user/tester complying with the condition of the minimum distance and hence, devices may not receive location from the LIPI immediately.

All the other fields are in default settings and you can change the values as may be appropriate in your setup.

6. Run Update.
