Quick Guide to the Map Editor (Admin) Tool

This is a simplified guide to the Map Editor for new campus administrators. Some instructional documents that have already been posted to the Customer Self-Help page are also linked in this document for easy reference.

POINT OF INTEREST

A point of interest (POI) is any point or area with a searchable name (and alias) on a map that can be selected and highlighted, such as rooms, offices, cafeterias or bathrooms. It can have an icon and / or text displayed on the map. In MazeMap, you can use Map Editor to add and manage POIs on your campus.
Be sure to log in to our admin page at admin.mazemap.com before following this guide. If you do not have access to log in to your account, please send a request to support@mazemap.com.

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to create a POI for your map.

POI as a Point

  1. Start by clicking on "Points of interest" in the Map Editor

2. Click on "Create POI" either in the menu on the left or click on the green button at the bottom right.

3. You will then get a menu on the left that allows you to add a POI title and choose between a point / area / grid of POIs.

Assign a POI and press “Enter”

Click on the box that says Point

Click on the map where you want to place it.

Click the green button saying “create POI”.

4. After placing the POI, a menu appears on the right. In the menu it is possible to add name, types, icon, color and text.

Name: You can add a name by clicking on the green “+”, enter the name and press Enter. The names in the "Name" box can be searched in the use.mazemap.com/MazeMap app.
Types: By clicking on the green "+" you can add a type to the POI. This means that the POI will have the configuration preset in type.
Icon: To add an icon, click on <POI-icon> in the "Appearance in map" menu and select the desired icon.
Text: To change the text, click on the underlined text and write what you want the text to be. To hide the text, clear the box next to "Text".
Visible at zoom levels: In the panel on the right you can adjust which zoom level the POI should be visible at. Drag the circles to get the zoom control you prefer.

5. To delete the POI: Click on the POI you want to delete. You will now see a menu on the right. Click on the three items at the top right of the menu and click on "Delete POI"

6. When you have finished editing the POIs, click the "Run Update" and "Start publish process" buttons to make the changes visible on the map.

You must also follow this step if you have deleted a POI that has already been published.

Note that if you have recently published changes, the "Start Publishing Process" button will be green instead of blue

Outdoor POIs

If you wish to add a Point of Interest that is located in the Outdoor area (outside of the building’s walls), please remember to tick the “Show Outdoors” option in the Map Display Options:

That will enable you to create a POI point or designated POI Area on the Outdoor layer, which means that it’s going to be visible regardless of which floor of the building is being selected in the app.
