How do I create a path?

General information

First of all, please enter the Path Tool in the Map Editor by clicking the “Paths”-button.

You should now be inside our Path Tool, where it is possible to draw new paths, adjust existing paths, delete existing paths or even adjust path settings.  The path tool should look similar to this:

In the top left corner you can choose which building you want to create a path in.

The outdoor area is also defined as a building and will be listed as “Outdoors'' in the drop down menu. In the case that your campus includes more than one building, the other buildings will also be listed in the menu.

Please, click the building where you would like to create a path in. There are 2 ways of creating paths: manual and automatic.

Manual Path Generation

In the menubox “Quick Path Tools”, in the top left, it is possible to choose between different modes. The different modes to choose from are “Select/Move”, “Draw Path” and “Eraser”.

Please choose “Draw Path” to begin with the creation of a path. As an alternative can you also press “D” on your keyboard.

A green dot will appear on the map immediately. This will be the starting point for your path.

Click on the map where you want the path to start. The green dot will turn into a yellow one and will stick to the selected spot. In MazeMap we call the round dot a node. Since it is the starting point, this node is called “Source Node”.

In general, you should have one node in each room, so it would be clicable in use.mazemap. After you have placed the source node, another green dot will appear as well as a yellow line which connects the yellow source node with the green dot. Please move the green dot to the location where this path should end.

You can place it by a “left click” and by pressing “Enter” after that. As you can see below, will the source node turn green, so as the line which connects the two nodes. The end point will be visualised in yellow now. In MazeMap the end node is called “Target Node”. (Find more information about “Source Node” & “Target Node” here: Source Node & Target Node: How to differentiate between them? )

Congratulations, you`ve just drawn your first path!

You can continue drawing the next path after you are done with placing the target node. The target node from the path you have just drawn will then become the source node for the next path.

To end drawing paths, click “Enter” and then “Enter” again. When the paths are completed they should be highlighted in green, like this:

Remember to save changes once you are finished.

You know the paths have been saved when they turn blue (the end nodes will be purple).

After the changes are saved, send the paths to production in order to use the edited paths in use.mazemap.com or the MazeMap app.

The “Publish Map”-button should turn green if the paths have been send successfully to production.

Please note that paths that are discouraged will be highlighted in purple.

Automatic Path Generation

In path tool we also have an option of automatic path generation which is visible on the left menu bar.

It has 4 different options:

  • Generate paths on active floor - This option generates paths only on the selected floorplan. Let’s choose the empty floorplan (because this option is enabled only when no manual changes have been made on the floorplan) and demontrate this option below.

Now choose the option Generate paths on active floor and see what happens.

As you can see new (green) paths were created on the floorplan. Automatic Path Generation works similar to the system in map editor - it creates paths only in rooms with door thresholds.

  • Generate paths on floors in building - This option works very similar to Generate paths on active floor. The only difference is that this one creates paths on every single floor in the selected building.

  • Generate paths between floors in building - This option allows you to connect stair and elevators in the whole building just by one click! It’s very important so every elevator and stair polygon has a path node (marked in red circles). Because of that they can be connected within all floorplans. Polygons without nodes will be skipped by the system.

  • Revert unsaved autogenerated paths in campus - This option removes all unsaved autogenerated paths in the tool.
